# Why this quiet?

> Why this quiet? Sedona Telehealth — Sedona Telehealth is a personal editorial site about published Selank research, with no medical business or treatment advice behind the name.

Sedona gives me a picture of stillness. I wanted to look closely enough for that picture to become interesting.

## The activity underneath

Calming was the word I expected to do most of the work in the Selank papers. A [rat frontal-cortex experiment](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26924987/) gave me something busier: gene-expression changes, sampled at different times and compared with changes produced by GABA. That seems a more interesting starting point than an idealized picture of perfect serenity.

The name Sedona Telehealth belongs to this editorial site. It is not a telehealth service or any other medical business: there is no prescribing, sale, shipping or booking here. Sedona is an association in my imagination, not evidence of a local service. The Selank papers are my subject, and published research is the substance of this notebook.

A satisfying explanation can seduce me well before a result warrants it. The [plasma enzyme assay](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11550013/) has an appealing mechanism to consider. The [patient immune findings](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18577961/) make the subject broader than I expected. Neither makes me feel entitled to predict someone else’s response.

The [clinical report’s pairing of anxiety reduction and mild activation](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18454096/) is attractive to me. I would like calm to leave room for involvement, attention and ordinary life. With that preference comes a temptation I distrust: letting a desired answer start to steer my judgment.

Medical advice has to answer to a person’s circumstances; these essays cannot do that. There are no treatment instructions here, and a research result on these pages supplies no personal recommendation. The [reading shelf](/references) is the useful destination for anyone who wants to spend longer with a particular experiment.

A claim that has drifted beyond its paper deserves a correction. The [contact page](/contact) describes the useful ingredients of a correction and the current limits on correspondence. An elegant account has little value to me if a finding’s scope was lost along the way.

At Sedona Telehealth I puzzle over published research on Selank; this notebook is an editorial site, not a medical business or a source of medical advice.
